Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I was recently diagnosed with cervical dysplasia as a result of contracting HPV. I have had abnormal pap smears for about 10 years. My question is regarding how I contracted this. My husband and I have been together for 28 years, and neither of us has been with anyone else. Before I discuss this with my husband, I need only that HPV can be contracted via sexual intercourse. Please provide me with an honest answer.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Cervical changes occur in normal females as well with reproductive age, like squamous metaplasia. Some changes in cells happen with age. Human papillomavirus, sex at an early age, and sex with multiple partners can cause cancerous cervical changes. This infection can recur as well, although the vaccine available needs to be given at the proper time. Sometimes after treatment like cone biopsy or cautery, some infected or pathological tissue remains that can again grow or is most at risk of recurrent infection.
You can have tests for yourself in a detailed evaluation and consultation in the colposcopy clinic, and if needed, you can have tests for your husband or a potential partner. Viruses can affect the genitals, oral, cervical, etc. Old infections could recur as well. Try to be relaxed, have the best recreational activities as a family, and avoid recreational drugs. Have a balanced diet, weight, and BMI (body mass index).
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
