Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My three-year-old daughter had been coughing for the last few days. She had a fever and was breathing heavily. We took her to the pediatrician, who performed a PCR test and diagnosed her with human metapneumovirus (HMPV).
Her fever has been controlled; however, the cough is still not improving. Her oxygen saturation was a bit low during the last check-up. Given that she is so young, I am worried that the infection may progress into something more serious, like bronchiolitis or pneumonia.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
If she is facing any symptoms like increased difficulty breathing, very low oxygen saturation, or signs of dehydration, she should seek immediate medical care.
Follow the pediatrician’s advice on supportive care.
Ensure proper hydration, rest, and a humidified environment to ease her breathing.
A chest X-ray may help rule out complications like pneumonia if the cough worsens or persists.
Nebulizers or steroids could be considered if advised by her doctor based on her response.
Continue regular follow-ups with her pediatrician to reassess her condition and ensure timely intervention if her symptoms do not improve.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
