Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am suffering from irregular period problems. I am gaining weight. I have hairs on my chin and face. They are growing thicker. My prolactin levels are very high. What to do?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query.
It appears that you have hyperprolactinemia and it is responsible for your irregular cycles. So, I suggest you take a tablet of Cabergoline (dopamine receptor agonist) 0.25 mg orally twice per week for 2 weeks. Then after 1 week of that, you must repeat your serum prolactin once again for further dose titration.
Regarding your polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), I suggest you take a tablet of Metformin (biguanide) 500 mg twice a day for 3 months. Also, try to start walking 45 minutes daily to prevent insulin resistance which ensues because of these two conditions hyperprolactinaemia and PCOS.
If your problems are not resolved in this time period then we need to do further tests.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.
Hope it helps.
Thanks and regards.
