What are antimicrobial resistance symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am concerned about my friend. He has been feeling under the weather for a while now, and I think it might have something to do with this antibiotic and bacterial stuff he has been reading about. He has always been a bit of a hypochondriac, but lately, he has been going on and on about antimicrobial resistance and multiple drug resistance.

He was convinced that he had caught some kind of super pathogen that was resistant to all treatments. I know he was just trying to stay informed, but I am worried he was taking it too far.

  • Do you think there is anything I can do to help him out?
  • I want him to be healthy, but I also do not want him to drive himself crazy worrying about this stuff. Any advice on how to approach this without coming across as dismissive?

Kindly help.

Thank you.
