Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been struggling with hypothalamic obesity, and the weight gain has made me feel inferior at work. I have stopped socializing and started avoiding friends, which makes me worry about slipping into depression. The isolation and frustration are hard to handle. Are there any treatments or lifestyle changes that can help me manage my weight and feel better? I am also concerned about how this is impacting my mental health and want to know how to cope.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Medications like GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., Liraglutide, Semaglutide), Metformin, or Tirzepatide can help manage appetite and improve insulin sensitivity. Hormone replacement, such as Levothyroxine for thyroid issues or somatropin for growth hormone deficiency, may also support weight and energy management. Bariatric surgery might be considered in severe cases when other treatments are ineffective.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can address emotional challenges, and joining support groups can reduce feelings of isolation. Working with a dietitian and engaging in enjoyable activities like walking or yoga can boost mood and health. Setting small goals and discussing workplace challenges can also help manage stress.
Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.
Thank you.
