Does I pill prevent pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was involved in protected intercourse with my partner, and the condom tore apart inside me, my periods were supposed to start yesterday. Is there a chance of me getting pregnant or should I consume I pill? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.I would like to know if you have history of unprotected sexual intercourse during this cycle other than the incident mentioned by you? If yes I would suggest you to follow the below mentioned instructions.

  1. Get a blood beta hcg (Human chorionic gonadotropin) test to check for pregnancy. If no, then you are less likely to become pregnant near your periods. I-pill may not be helpful at this moment.
  2. Use copper intra uterine contraceptive device within five days of accident if history of other episode of unprotected sexual intercourse.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take the medication with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
