Patient's Query
Hello doctor
I am 19 years old. About two years ago, I accidentally cut myself while trimming my pubic hair with a rusty pair of scissors I found in a forest. I think it happened last time I did it but it was red but nothing happens after a month. I am not on any medication.
Kindly help.
Hello
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Based on what you have described, the injury happened two years ago and was a small cut from a rusty pair of scissors in the pubic area. If no signs of infection (such as redness, swelling, pus, or fever) appeared shortly after, and you have been healthy since then, it is very unlikely that anything serious like tetanus occurred.
Tetanus symptoms usually appear within days to weeks after injury, not years. Since two years have passed without major issues, there is no need to worry now.
However, it is important for your overall safety to make sure your tetanus vaccinations are up to date. Most people receive boosters every ten years. You can ask your parents or a doctor about your vaccination status. Avoid using old or rusty tools on your body, especially sensitive areas like the genitals, to prevent injury or infection.
Talk to a trusted adult or healthcare provider if you ever have a similar situation or need private health guidance. You are not alone, and your concerns are valid. If anything still bothers you about the incident or if you experience new symptoms, I recommend a quick visit to a doctor or health clinic for peace of mind. And if you would like, I am here for a more personalized consultation.
I hope this helps.
Take care.
Regards.
