What is the treatment for insect bite?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend, who is 28 years old, has been showing fever, fatigue, body aches, and an itching rash on her hand over the last two days. The rash is not spreading and is present only on the right hand. Is this due to an insect bite? Can you provide me with advice on how I can assist her at this stage and help her with the recovery process?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, it can be due to insect bites. I will prescribe you medicine and she will be fine. Insect bites are from unknown sources so initially symptomatic treatment is given, and if that does not work, then we can go for an investigation. For now, I suggest you give the tablet Pheniramine maleate 25 mg once before sleeping, and Paracetamol 650 mg once after a meal whenever there is a fever. Give these for three days and she will be fine.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
