What could cause extreme anger, self-harm, and bad self-image?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I have BPD; I have experienced a lot of symptoms, like intense emotions that I cannot control, such as anger, a constant feeling of emptiness, and self-harm. I have a bad self-image and am bad at controlling emotions. Sometimes, I have episodes where I either feel everything at once or get completely numb to everything and cannot feel anything. Also, I have a fear of abandonment. I have had these symptoms for two years, which is getting worse. I want to know what this could be. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

As per your mentioned symptoms and history, I think you are going through depression and anxiety. We need to find out underlying personality issues. I suggest you start antidepressant and antianxiety medicine. Avoid smoking and drinking if any, exercise regularly, and if required start magnetic stimulation. I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
