Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have some sort of anxiety issue that I am facing. For nine months, whenever I am thinking of going out, I feel like I need to go to the washroom. I feel like my stomach is not feeling well, like I badly need to go to the washroom, or I have a fear that if I go there, I may suddenly feel the urge to poop. This kind of thought and fear makes me feel bad.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. You may have irritable bowel syndrome due to stress or anxiety. There is non-pharmacological management for it.
You should try to follow the guidelines below for it.
You should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes, like at least going for a walk.
You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily; just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing.
Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts; just let them be. This will help you to relax.
You should eat healthy home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.
You should spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family.
You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, or learning new skills, languages, or musical instruments.
You should get enough sleep, seven to eight hours, daily.
Drink more water.
You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.
Live your life; do not just spend it.
Be bold and confident.
Stop overthinking.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you want some help.
Thank you.
