I have scaly, itchy rashes. How to manage them?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from some rashes all over my body for the last seven years. I have undergone many treatments, but no relief. They are itchy and sometimes scaly. And sweating increases itching, and in winters, it falls like dandruff.

Right now, I am applying Scelia lotion all over my body. Can you please suggest any treatment? I am attaching the pictures with this. What type of disease am I suffering from? Day by day, I am feeling very depressed.

Please advise.

Hi

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have seen the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I can understand how frustrating and upsetting it must feel to deal with these itchy rashes for so many years without relief, especially when it starts affecting your confidence and mood.

You are not alone in this, and please know that skin conditions can take time to understand and manage well. From what you describe, itchy, scaly rashes all over the body, which worsen with sweating and flake like dandruff in winter, it could possibly be a chronic skin condition such as seborrheic dermatitis, chronic eczema, or even psoriasis. Either of these should be ruled out.

So let me suggest what you can do now:

  1. Visit a dermatologist, so they can properly confirm the diagnosis with a detailed examination and possibly a small skin test.
  2. I also suggest you continue a gentle skin care routine, like using mild, fragrance-free soaps or cleansers, and specifically avoid harsh scrubbing.
  3. Apply a moisturizing lotion twice daily, especially after bathing.
  4. If itching is severe, take an antihistamine tablet (like Levocetirizine 5 mg) at night.
  5. Managing triggers, such as sweating, stress, and dryness, is important as they can worsen itching, so stay cool, hydrated, and moisturized. I hope this helps.

I hope my answer is clear to you, and if you need any details at any time, I am here and at your service.

Thank you.
