Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need help evaluating my kidney function, urine, and blood panel. I have the data from several exams.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I went through your reports (the attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

Creatinine level and eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) are not the correct representation of kidney functions for all cases. Someone with good muscle mass and high protein in the diet tends to have high creatinine. Kidney injury is determined by urine albumin being more than 30. If you want to know the correct GFR (glomerular filtration rate) then the CKD-EPI creatinine–cystatin C equation is used which does not depend on your muscle mass.

If you are doing heavy work out then, the protein quantity which you are taking is alright. If not then this high amount of protein with creatine supplements may damage your kidneys. I would advise you to cut down protein intake from animal products because that increases the acid level in your blood which further affects your kidney.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

My urine albumin level is 1.5 and my albumin/creatinine ratio (urine) is 50. Should I still get the cystatin c test?

Please help.

Answered by Dr. Yash Kathuria

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I would advise you to get it done. As your albumin-to-creatinine ratio is borderline increased, we can get the correct GFR through this. And you need to include more alkaline food products in your diet which includes fruits and vegetables.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
