What can cause light bleeding during menstruation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period was due yesterday, and yesterday morning, I had light bleeding, which I confirmed as my period. However, since yesterday evening, there has been no blood, and up until now, I have only had a white, smelly discharge with no blood, even though it is the second day. I am confused about this. Could you please help me with this?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Regarding your symptoms, I believe you have developed oligomenorrhea, which is a condition characterized by small menstrual flow due to hormonal imbalance. This may be caused by a vaginal infection from the white discharge.

I suggest you undergo a hormone profile test, along with a vaginal and endocervical swab test, and let me know the results. Additionally, also take the following medications:

  1. Two tablets of Co-Amoxiclav 625 mg (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) orally twice a day for two weeks.

  2. Two tablets of Metronidazole 400 mg orally three times a day for two weeks.

  3. A tablet of Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg once a day for one month..

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
