What could be the cause of the light period?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing a very light period, with sharp pain in my lower back. I am worried that it is not normal. I have no previous history of this issue and I am currently Sertraline and Quetiapine.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Here are some possible explanations for your symptoms:

1. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): You may be experiencing PMS, which can cause changes in menstrual flow and pain in the lower back and pelvis. PMS symptoms typically begin a few days before menstruation and resolve with the onset of menstruation.

2. Endometriosis: Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus, causing pain and bleeding during menstruation. Lower back pain is a common symptom of endometriosis, especially during menstruation.

3. Fibroids: Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that grow in the uterus. They can cause heavy menstrual bleeding and pain in the lower back and pelvis, especially during menstruation.

4. Ovulation Pain: Some women experience pain during ovulation, which can occur around mid-cycle. This pain is often described as sharp and full, similar to the symptoms you are describing.

5. Infection or Injury: If you have recently had an injury or infection in your lower back or pelvis, this could be causing your symptoms.

It is important to speak with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, as they can help determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment or management strategies. They may recommend medications, lifestyle changes, or surgical interventions depending on the diagnosis.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
