Can ADHD be effectively treated with Lisdexamfetamine?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My child’s doctor suggested Lisdexamfetamine for his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I am concerned and need to understand more about this.

  1. Can ADHD be effectively treated with medication like Lisdexamfetamine?

  2. Will it help him focus and manage his impulsiveness, or could it make him dull and dim-witted?

He is eight years old, and he has been quite unmanageable lately. He is very impulsive, has trouble paying attention, and is often hyperactive.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your situation and your concern about your child.

Your pediatrician has suggested one of the good medications for ADHD. You need to start taking medication for it. This medication will help him with focus and impulsive behavior. It will not make him dull. If your child is not able to sit, then he may have difficulty learning. His impulsive behavior gives him trouble.

Kindly consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
