Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old and have noticed signs of male pattern baldness. My DHT levels are higher than normal. Can I link my baldness to DHT, and is there a cure? I have already undergone lab tests, including DHT, Testosterone, and Estradiol tests. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Based on your description, it appears you are experiencing male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, is often genetically determined and is characterized by the gradual conversion of terminal hairs into indeterminate, and eventually into vellus, hairs. Given your elevated DHT levels, I suggest you take a tablet of 1 mg of Finasteride once daily and apply 1 ml of 5 percent of Minoxidil locally twice a day. Consult your doctor before taking the medications. Please note that during the initial two months of treatment, you may experience an increase in hair fall, but it is essential not to discontinue the treatment without consulting your Gp or a nearby dermatologist. Minoxidil is generally safe to use and should be applied continuously to maintain its benefits. If you prefer, I suggest you use Minoxidil lotion with Finasteride (Morr-F lotion) instead of plain Minoxidil. You can continue this medical treatment for your hair fall for as long as you desire. It is worth mentioning that five percent of Minoxidil is as effective as 10 percent for male pattern alopecia, so you can use the five percent lotion twice daily for maintenance. Additionally, I suggest taking vitamin supplements like Xtraglo (amino acids and minerals) tablet once daily for six months. Consult your doctor before taking any medication.

I hope this helps.
