Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a stitch mark on my nose from an accident, and it is a different color from the rest of my facial skin. How can I treat it and make it the same color as my face?
Please suggest.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can completely understand how frustrating it can be to have a patch of skin that looks different from the rest of your face, especially after an accident.
From what you have described and based on the image (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), this appears to be post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, which occurs when the skin temporarily loses pigment following trauma or inflammation. The good news is that, with proper care, the skin can gradually improve and become closer to your normal skin tone, although this may take time and patience.
For treatment, apply topical Tacrolimus 0.03 percent ointment (commonly used for eczema-type skin conditions) at bedtime for approximately one month. Tacrolimus helps stimulate repigmentation and improve color mismatch. Along with this, protecting the affected area from sun exposure is essential, as ultraviolet (UV) radiation can make hypopigmented patches more noticeable. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen during the daytime and reapply it in the afternoon.
Avoid harsh cosmetic procedures or aggressive laser treatments on this area until the pigment improves, as these can sometimes worsen hypopigmentation.
It is completely understandable to feel self-conscious about this, but with consistent treatment and gentle skin care, your skin tone should gradually even out. Please do not worry, this condition usually improves over time.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again for further queries.
Thank you.
