Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I gave birth a month ago, and this morning I woke up with my swollen left breast. It hurts when I touch it, and I do not understand why.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Mastitis is a condition where the breast becomes hot, swollen, and red, often affecting breastfeeding women. Bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus typically cause it and may cause symptoms such as a swollen, painful area, a hard lump, burning pain during breastfeeding, and nipple discharge. Flu-like symptoms like fever, chills, and fatigue can also occur.
Management includes consulting a gynecologist promptly. Treatment may involve the Injection of Ceftriaxone (Rocephin) 1g twice daily for 48 hours and tablet Amoxicillin (Amoxil, Moxatag) 500 mg twice daily for seven days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. Additionally, avoid tight bras, sudden breastfeeding stoppage, and applying creams or oils. With proper care, recovery is achievable.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
