Does frequent masturbation at 21 affect male health?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I am a 21-year-old male. I have been masturbating two to three times a day since the age of 18. Recently, I have reduced the frequency to about three to four times per week. However, I have started experiencing premature ejaculation.

I would like to know:

  1. Is my reproductive health normal?

  2. Is regular masturbation healthy, or should I consider stopping?

I would appreciate your guidance.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Thank you for reaching out. To provide you with the most accurate guidance, it would help to have a bit more information about your background, such as your education, profession, and overall lifestyle, as these factors can influence sexual health and behavior.

Regarding masturbation, it is a completely normal and natural part of human sexuality. Most males and many females engage in it at some point in their lives. Masturbation, even daily, is generally not harmful unless it interferes with your daily functioning, relationships, or causes psychological distress.

There is a common myth, often spread by unqualified individuals, that masturbation leads to physical weakness or long-term health problems. This is not supported by scientific evidence. Masturbation does not cause physical weakness, does not reduce fertility, and has no negative impact on your physical or sexual health. It is not a disease, and there is no medical need to "treat" it with medications.

In fact, masturbation is often a normal part of adult life, even after marriage. During times when partners are unavailable (such as during pregnancy or after childbirth), it is not uncommon for individuals to continue the practice.

Premature ejaculation, however, can be influenced by many factors, including anxiety, stress, and unrealistic expectations formed by early or excessive masturbation. If you are concerned about this, especially if it is affecting your self-esteem or future relationships, it may be worth discussing with a qualified doctor or therapist.

In summary:

  1. Masturbation is normal and healthy.

  2. There is no physical harm in it, and it is not an addiction unless it becomes compulsive.

  3. Your current frequency (three to four times/week) is within the normal range.

  4. Premature ejaculation can be addressed with behavioral strategies, counseling, or medical support if needed.

Focus on a healthy diet, regular exercise, managing stress, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. If you have ongoing concerns, do not hesitate to consult a sexual health specialist.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
