Is it normal to not see or feel the clitoris?
Patient's Query
Hello Doctor,
I am a teenage girl, and masturbation is something I have tried to do for a few years now, but I have never been able to figure it out or reach an orgasm. I recently started learning more about clitoral orgasms and came across information about the clitoral hood and how it usually covers the clitoris but can be gently pulled back to reveal it. The thing is, I do not seem to have a visible hood where my clitoris should be. Instead, there seems to be some kind of hooded area closer to my urethra. I also cannot see my clitoris the way it is shown in diagrams; it just looks like a small bump under the skin. Is that normal? Could this be something like clitoral adhesions?
Also (sorry if this sounds weird), is it safe to gently try to reveal the clitoris myself? I really do not want to talk to my mother about this, so I would really appreciate any information or guidance.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It is completely normal for anatomy to vary from person to person, and what you are describing does not necessarily indicate that anything is wrong. The clitoral hood, a fold of skin that protects the clitoris, can differ in size and visibility; some individuals have a more prominent clitoris, while others have one that remains covered beneath the skin, which is entirely natural. The urethra, where urine exits the body, is located nearby and may be surrounded by natural folds of skin that can resemble a hood. If you are unable to see your clitoris or if it appears as a small bump under the skin, that is also normal. In some cases, the clitoral hood may not move easily, but this does not mean anything is wrong. Unless you are experiencing pain, discomfort, or unusual sensitivity, it is unlikely that you have clitoral adhesions. If you are curious, it is safe to gently explore the area with clean hands and soft pressure, keeping in mind that stimulation can still feel good even if the clitoris is not fully visible. Everyone's body is different, and not all vulvas look like the diagrams online, and that is perfectly okay. You are normal, and there is nothing wrong with your body.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
