Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female who recently began using a menstrual cup for my periods. I tried it for several days and have not had the best experience. The insertion part was not bad, but the removal has been horrible. I have looked up tips, but the main problem is that I cannot reach the top of the cup to de-suction it. And the process of trying and failing to remove that way has been so painful. So the only other thing I could think of was to pull on the stem of the cup, which works for a while until it de-suction at the entrance of the vagina, which is also very painful. I am worried this might hurt my vagina, and I need advice. How can I remove it without pain? And if I keep doing it this way, will I damage my vagina?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

First of all, try to have complete hygiene and clean your hands and local area as well. Do not tighten your local muscles to make things more complicated. Sometimes it moves inside the vaginal canal and is unable to catch. Try to bear down with the help of your stomach muscle to have pressure from inside and pull the stem until you reach the base of the cup. Squat on the floor so the vaginal wall becomes small and you can easily pull down. Try to grip and pinch with clean hands. You can take help if the tissue dries and pull whichever surface comes to you. Pinch as far as the top of the cup and break the seal to remove it easily without damage if the above method fails, then reach to the side of the cup gently with a dry hand and break the seal. Most women find it more accessible and useful.

I hope the information will help.

Thanks.
