Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I noticed clotted blood about 15 days after my menstrual cycle. Is this normal, and what can I do about it? Does it mean that my cycle has changed?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Clotted blood 15 days after the menstrual cycle can happen, but it is not typically part of a normal cycle. Clots often form when menstrual blood pools and coagulates due to heavy or prolonged bleeding, but spotting or bleeding with clots outside the usual period time may indicate irregular bleeding or a change in the cycle.
Possible reasons include hormonal imbalances, uterine conditions such as fibroids or polyps, infections, or changes related to ovulation or breakthrough bleeding. It could also be related to delayed shedding of the uterine lining or other underlying health issues.
Whether this means the cycle is changing depends on the pattern and other symptoms. If this is a one-time event, it may not be significant. However, if clotted bleeding or spotting happens 15 days after the period becomes frequent or is accompanied by pain, heavy bleeding, or other symptoms, it could indicate a change in the menstrual cycle or an underlying issue that needs medical evaluation.
I would suggest the following measures:
Monitor and track the bleeding pattern with a period tracker.
Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and manage stress.
Avoid heavy physical exertion and consult a healthcare provider if symptoms persist.
A medical evaluation, including ultrasound and hormone tests, may be necessary for an accurate diagnosis.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include hormonal therapy (HT) or other interventions.
Clotted blood 15 days after the menstrual cycle can be a sign of cycle changes or other causes, and monitoring is important. Consulting a healthcare provider for further evaluation is recommended if this continues or worsens.
