What could be the reason for pain in the hip and groin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old male with no previous record of health problems. For nearly two weeks, I have been experiencing an itch on my left hip that occasionally goes into my groin area. The discomfort has subsided to a mild aching and numbness in a quarter-sized region. However, there are no rash bumps or other symptoms on my skin. I work in construction and may have strained a muscle there, but I also think the likelihood of a strain within two weeks is a little low. Someone suggested kidney stones before, but I have not noticed any symptoms.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It is a neurological problem called meralgia paresthetica. This occurs due to the compression of nerves,, usually due to heavy activities and obesity. It is an entirely beginning and non-worrisome condition. I suggest you do not wear tight underwear. Some abdominal exercises will help you recover, which can be learned from physiotherapists. You can have medicine like tablets. Neurobion forte (Thiamine hydrochloride) once a day for two weeks, and if not helpful, then you can get prescribed Tablet. Pregabalin 75 mg (Gabapentin) before bedtime is a nerve stabilizer for two to three weeks.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
