Can tricyclic antidepressants and NSAIDs help manage migraines?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have headaches about four times a week, sometimes more. They are intense to the point where I cannot focus or function. I have never received medical treatment for them before. When I have a migraine, is it normal for it to persist throughout the day and night and wake up with it? Additionally, in the past, my eyes have been swollen. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. If you experience nausea, phonophobia, or photophobia, it could be a migraine. It typically lasts for four to 72 hours. Periorbital swelling is rare with migraines. I suggest you try taking tablet Amitriptyline 10mg every night as a prophylaxis. Whenever you have a severe headache, you can take a combination of Naproxen and Domperidone. Additionally, maintaining a regular sleep schedule and a balanced diet can be helpful.

I hope this will help you. Thank you.
