Is it safe to use Relibeta injection for relapsing MS?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My fiancée was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis about three months ago, and she was started on weekly Relibeta injections. She’s doing well right now; she has no symptoms and seems perfectly fine.

How long is it typically safe to continue using Relibeta?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Relibeta (Interferon Beta-1a) is a disease-modifying therapy used to reduce the frequency of relapses in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. It’s generally safe to use long-term and can be continued for many years if well-tolerated.

That said, monitoring specific health markers while on this medication is essential. Regular blood tests, such as a complete blood count (CBC) and liver function tests (LFTs), are recommended to ensure no side effects or complications from ongoing treatment.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
