Is myocarditis or pericarditis a matter of concern when symptoms do not appear?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I might have had some form of myocarditis or pericarditis and those symptoms lasted for the past four months. But I have not had any noticeable symptoms since then. As there are no symptoms right now, is there a need to consult a cardiologist? I am concerned if it worsened when it is left untreated. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. If there are no symptoms of shortness of breath or chest pain there is no need to consult a specialist. Few blood tests, echocardiography and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) may be needed to confirm the diagnosis of myocarditis.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I want to know if that heals itself. Can it be regarded as a mild case when symptoms subside? Will the articles on life expectancy apply to my health condition?

Kindly reply.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Pfizer and some other COVID vaccines were shown to cause myocarditis within a week or two after vaccination in less than 0.01% of cases which is resolved by itself. Symptoms of myocarditis include chest pain, breathlessness, and irregularities in the heart beat which denote the severity of the condition. I advise you to get an electrocardiogram done.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
