I am 22 years old and was diagnosed with nasal polyps about seven months ago by an ENT specialist. I had been struggling to breathe through my nose and had lost almost all my sense of smell.
A CT scan revealed bilateral polyps and significant mucosal thickening in my ethmoid sinuses. The ENT immediately recommended functional endoscopic sinus surgery, but I am hesitant to undergo general anesthesia at my age for a condition that might recur.
Additionally, I was diagnosed with mild asthma and Aspirin sensitivity last year, which my doctor mentioned could be related to the polyps. My question is: Can nasal polyps at my age be managed without surgery by using steroid sprays like Mometasone or Fluticasone long-term, or will they inevitably keep growing back without surgical intervention?
I have been using Mometasone two sprays in each nostril for the past three months, and I feel about 20 % better. Should I consider asking about Dupilumab as a treatment option before agreeing to surgery? What is the likelihood of recurrence even after undergoing the operation?
