What could be the reason for a swollen lower left lymph node?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a swollen lower left neck lymph node that I thought was a tooth cavity. I have no night sweating, fever, weakness, or headache. The Oraquick test is done every week. All tests were negative for up to 1.5 months. Am I positive for HIV?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

I am sorry to hear about your swollen lymph nodes. Swollen lymph nodes can occur for various reasons; lymph nodes often swell in response to infection, inflammation, or other immune system responses. It is worth noting that dental issues, such as cavities, can sometimes lead to swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

However, if you have already addressed the dental concern by filling the cavity and are still experiencing swelling in different lymph nodes, it may be related to a separate issue.

Given the persistent and painful nature of your symptoms, I strongly recommend reaching out to a healthcare professional, such as your primary care physician or a dentist. They can evaluate your specific situation, perform any necessary tests or examinations such as fine needle aspiration, and provide a proper diagnosis. They will be able to guide you towards appropriate treatment options or refer you to a specialist if needed.

In the meantime, try to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid any potential sources of infection. Stay hydrated, get enough rest, and listen to your body's signals.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
