What could be the reason behind pain in the neck, jaw, and under the chin along with numbness on the right side of the face?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from an unexplained pain in my mouth for around six months. My dentist referred me for a full mouth X-ray at my local hospital last year, which showed no abnormalities. He seemed to think I have a burning mouth syndrome. I have neck pain, jaw pain, and pain under my chin. I am now unable to smile properly, as the right side of my face feels numb. My GP referred me for a CT brain scan, which was normal. Again I consulted a dentist who said that everything looked normal, apart from my salivary glands which looked a little inflamed. I am very concerned, but not sure how to pursue the matter further. I am currently on Lansoprazole. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Could you please attach the full mouth X-ray done? It seems to be very strange that no doctors have been able to find the exact source of pain. It might be either some nerve compression or trigeminal neuralgia, which causes pain like this. An X-ray could have helped me to understand better and find a cause for your pain. I suggest showing an endodontist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
