Why do I still have nightfall after quitting masturbation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Over the past years, I had a masturbation addiction. I used to do it maybe five to seven times a day, and now, thankfully, I have quit for the past four years. But I am now getting nightfall every day.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

What you are experiencing is medically normal and not harmful at all. Nightfall, also known as nocturnal emission, is the body’s natural way of releasing semen when there is sexual buildup, especially in men who are not ejaculating through intercourse or masturbation.

The fact that you masturbated frequently in the past does not cause permanent damage and is not the reason for nightfall now. Even after quitting, the body continues to produce sperm, and during your sleep, that too, particularly during your deep or dream sleep. Automatic ejaculation can occur without conscious control.

Having nightfall frequently, even daily for some time, is not dangerous. And it does not weaken the body, nor does it affect fertility or sexual performance. Stress, anxiety, sexual thoughts before sleep, poor sleep patterns, or a very full bladder can increase its frequency.

Maintaining regular sleep, reducing stress, avoiding sexual content before bedtime, and staying physically active can help reduce episodes over time.

If nightfall continues to cause significant distress, fatigue, or is associated with other symptoms like pain, burning, or discharge, then a consultation with a doctor or urologist is advisable. Otherwise, medically speaking, this condition is benign and self-limiting, and reassurance is usually all that is required.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
