Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old and 100 % healthy and fit. I do not have a health issue. I have a concern that I think only a doctor could give me a confirmation and full explanation. So, although the fact that I am sexually active and have a healthy sex life I do not always wake up with an erection or what is so-called morning wood. I would like to know if that is something to be concerned about.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Early morning erection or morning wood is associated with the activation of areas of the brain during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep and is not caused by sexual stimulation. If you wake up during or just following a REM sleep period, you may have a morning erection. Most men have multiple erections during the night that they are not even aware of. It is also possible that you are waking up at a time when the effects of certain hormones are not in play and the areas of your brain responsible for erection are not active. The lack of morning wood does not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with you. As long as you are having good erections during your normal sexual activity you are good to go. I hope this puts your mind at ease. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thank you.
