Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 63 and have a bulbous skin nodule on the bridge of my nose. What is it, and what should I take for it?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concerns. The possible causes of such a skin nodule could include sebaceous hyperplasia or a benign cyst, which involves overgrowth or blockage of the oil glands. Another potential cause is rhinophyma, a subtype of rosacea that leads to thickened, bulbous skin, often affecting the nose. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a common type of skin cancer typically seen in older adults, may also be a possibility. It often appears as a shiny, raised bump or a sore that does not heal. Other causes may include dermatofibroma or other benign growths, which usually present as firm, skin-colored nodules.
You should not attempt to treat the nodule at home. It is important to see a dermatologist as soon as possible for a thorough examination. A biopsy may be needed to rule out serious conditions such as skin cancer. Fortunately, most of these conditions can be treated effectively, especially if they are diagnosed early. You should consult a doctor sooner if the nodule is growing, bleeding, or forming a crust; if you experience pain or notice any color changes; or if the lesion has been present for more than a few weeks.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
