Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been taking Primolut-N for nine days, and I have developed severe red patches all over my skin, along with significant irritation and a burning sensation. What should I do now?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you so much for sharing your concern with me.
Based on your history, you may be having a drug reaction to Primolut-N (Norethisterone), especially since the rash appeared after taking it for several days and is associated with burning and widespread redness.
The first and most important step is to stop the medication immediately (if you have not already). For now, you can take an oral antihistamine such as Xyzal (Levocetirizine) twice a day for seven to ten days to help reduce irritation and itching and apply a soothing moisturizer to calm the skin. Try to avoid heat, tight clothing, and any harsh soaps or products, as these can worsen the burning sensation.
However, because the rash is severe, widespread, and associated with burning, it is very important to monitor for warning signs such as fever, swelling of the face or lips, blisters, skin peeling, or involvement of the eyes or mouth. If any of these occur, you should seek urgent medical care immediately, as more serious drug reactions require prompt treatment.
Even if these severe symptoms are not present, I would still strongly advise seeing a doctor in person as soon as possible, as you may require prescription treatment such as corticosteroids to settle the reaction quickly.
I hope it helps with your query.
Thank you.
