Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My nose got injured while playing basketball ten days ago. Could you please review my X-ray reports? I just want to understand my results and if anything is urgent. I have already been to the ER.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your X-ray reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). They show that there is a small undisplaced fracture of both nasal bones. The fracture segments are still in their anatomical position, but you need not worry as these fractures heal by themselves in three to four weeks. Make sure that you do not touch or manipulate your nasal dorsum unnecessarily. So do you have any history of nasal obstruction or bleeding after this trauma? What are the current medications you have been prescribed?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I forgot to include the diagnosis that I received with my X-ray results. It reads as follows: transverse and non-displaced fracture at the junction of the mid or distal nasal bones with mild soft tissue swelling. From my understanding, this aligns with your opinion. The incident happened a week ago in the evening. I had nose bleeding at the time of the incident, but the bleeding stopped that night. I woke up with swelling around the nose, and my eyes had become black. The swelling and the black eyes have healed quite since that morning. I have not been prescribed any medications. If surgery is not needed at the moment, is there any risk that my fracture could cause issues in the long term? I am asking because my father broke his nose when he was young, and surgery was not required at that time, but after some time, he had problems breathing through one of his nasal passages and had to get the surgery done. Is this something that could happen to me based on my results? Should I request another X-ray once my fracture is healed after a few weeks? I just want to ensure that I take the right steps to prevent future issues.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As I said, you have a non-displaced fracture, and the bones are intact in their normal position, so I am 100 % sure that these fractures heal by themselves, and you need not do anything. Just avoid any kind of trauma to your nose. Your septum seems intact, so please do not worry, as things will not go bad for you. Bleeding and black eyes are pretty much common after nasal trauma.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
