Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing neck pain for a few days, and after it got a bit better, my hands and feet started to feel tingly and a bit numb over two days. And If I rest on my pillow, some parts of my face also feel numb. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Twenty-two years is no age to get neck pain and numbness and tingling in hands preceded by neck pain which is generally due to a disc problem in the elderly. But the commonest cause remains pressure on the nerves exiting from the cervical spine (neck spine). In young people, the same can be due to injury while playing active sports, prolonged unnatural neck positions as in traveling, or sleeping unusually thick or stiff pillow use. But generally, the neck stiffness and numbness appear at the same time. I suggest taking a rest, avoiding the situations I have mentioned, and seeing how things progress; no need to worry at the moment; let us follow up with what I have told you, take care of your neck.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

How about the slight numbness in the face on my right side?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I had thought about the numbness of the face one-sided but could not fit in with the neck pain and numbness of hands; the whole episode must be watched for new developments. Unfortunately, an examination is impossible online, so the best way to watch and see what happens. In any case, it does not appear to be serious, though maybe some involvement of nerves, inflammation of nerves either post-infective, toxin, etc., (no need to get scared about that, important to follow the symptoms and be ready to visit a doctor if symptoms increase, to me the chances appear slim). It may develop into something substantial, but chances are less, so let us wait and see how it progresses.

Regards.
