Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My question about vitamin A and omega 3. I am trying to increase my omega-3 intake (to see if it will help with my sinus inflammatory disease) however I do not like fish. I have decided to take a liquid supplement of omega 3 (where 2 teaspoons equal 2.4 mg) however I read to be careful not to consume much vitamin A. Vitamin A is not listed on the box of the omega 3 bottle (2nd link) but am I right in assuming it is in there? If so here comes my further query. According to this health website (first link), it says not to consume more than 2.5 mg per day - does it mean 2.5mg of vitamin A or omega 3? Am I ok to consume 2 teaspoonfuls of this every day?
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I understand your concern.
According to your statement, you are concerned about taking liquid supplements of Omega 3.
First of all, read carefully all the ingredients that are mentioned in that liquid supplement bottle. If it says that, this Omega 3 liquid supplement does not contain any vitamin A, then you do not need to be worried about it as it does not contain vitamin A. Yes, you are right that consuming a lot of vitamin A along with Omega 3 can be harmful, as some Omega 3 supplements can contain vitamins A and D. You can take 2 teaspoonfuls of Omega 3 daily without any hesitation. You should watch your bottle of Omega 3 carefully to know whether it contains Vitamin A or not. If there is no vitamin A, then taking 2 teaspoons of Omega 3 daily will be safe for you.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Regards.
Thank you.
