Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have noticed a painless white spot on my lower gum. I am worried that it is a serious inflammation. Kindly help.

Thank you, doctor.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I have seen the picture (attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity) and it appears normal. Food, medicine, or even the surrounding temperature and environment can affect the pigmentation in the body. Some people notice the gum color turning black and some white. It is due to the imbalance of a pigment called melanin which affects our skin color.

I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions

  1. Do not worry until there is any pain or inflammation.
  2. Practice finger massages after brushing your teeth to regularize blood flow.
  3. Maintain proper oral hygiene, drink plenty of water, and avoid excess soda or any other habits you have.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I have gone through the images again and (attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity) I think with proper brushing and finger massages the white spot can be easily scraped off.

I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions.

  1. You can use a gum paint (Tannic acid) or the anti-fungal oral gel available. Apply the gel on the spot, keep it for four to five minutes, and spit it out.
  2. Do not worry if there is no pain, inflammation, or increase in severity.
  3. Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
