How to overcome heart palpitations in pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had heart palpitations throughout my body when pregnant. I was constantly worried and scared, yet my palpitations never went away, and I underwent an abortion one month later. The palpitation, however, remained. I take medication, but it does not completely cure me. Last year, I got pregnant, and my child now has palpitations and purple hand flushes all over his body. Please advise me on what I should do next.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your hemoglobin is low, and your MCV (mean corpuscular volume) is high. Your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is also elevated despite normal T3 and T4, indicating subclinical hypothyroidism. Are you using thyroid medication? Hypothyroidism can harm a developing infant in the womb. Palpitations do not harm the infant, but the source should be determined. Get an EKG (electrocardiogram) done, especially if you experience palpitations. If there is a problem with the heart rhythm, additional arrangements will be established. Furthermore, your blood pressure is 166/98 mmHg. Do you rely on any medication to treat it?

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
