Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 45-year-old. I had a normal PAP two years ago. I have three children ranging from 5 years to 17 years. I am only on a low dose of blood pressure medication. I discovered a tiny bump on my cervix. It cannot have been there more than three months at most. I have no bleeding and have regular cycles. Otherwise, I am completely normal. I have an appointment with my gynecologist next month third. But wondering if I should be concerned for cervical cancer? I feel like the likelihood is small given my history of clear PAP results but also worried. Please give your opinion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details you have provided, and based on the facts that you have been regularly following with your PAP (Papanicolaou test) smear screening, and also the last one being done just years ago being normal, the likelihood of this bump on cervix being cancerous is pretty less. Also, you mentioned you are totally asymptomatic, not having any inter-menstrual or post-coital bleeding or any unhealthy discharge, so rest assured. I would like to know how did you discover this tiny bump. Is it through an ultrasound or self felt? Sometimes there can be Nabothian glands on the cervix which get infected and later become Nabothian cyst and appear as bumps. They are absolutely normal and non-cancerous. Please provide the details about how this bump on the cervix was found if possible. But anyhow, it would always be good that your gynecologist also has a look over your cervix during the gynecologic examination. I hope that this helps to relieve your anxiety to an extent until you could get in touch with your gynecologist.

Please revert in case of any further queries.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

This was self-felt. I have had a small sebaceous cyst on the outside (the vulva) for years my doctor is aware of (and that at the time also panicked me). And I am in the habit of checking the body. With the negative PAP, etc. In the past, I felt like cancer was a small probability but always better to be safe. Kindly guide me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is always better to be safe and get examined in case of any doubt. Most likely, it is not a cancerous growth. Stay positive. Everything will be fine, visit your gynecologist at the scheduled appointment and do not forget to get screened with PAP smears every three years or combined PAP smear and HPV DNA (human papillomaviruses deoxyribonucleic acid) testing every five-yearly.

I hope this was helpful.
