Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a 3 x 4 mm movable lump or lesion on the parotid gland next to my right ear. I have attached a photo of the ultrasound. Should I be concerned about it?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A 3 x 4 mm lump in the parotid area is likely a tiny lymph node. Lymph node nes are numerous in the neck area, and the commonest cause for lymph nodes to get enlarged is an infection in the head and neck region, like a cold. The lump in the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) is very small and does not look too alarming. However, please get back to your doctor if you feel any enlargement over the next few days to weeks. In most cases, such a small node returns to normal in a few days after treating the infection. I suggest you check the size of the lump over the next 15 days, and if the lump enlarges and persists for a longer time, another ultrasound scan needs to be done in two to three months. If the enlargement is confirmed, then possibly an FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) test is recommended.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
