What causes itching and swelling of the penis after a sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I suffer from a penis infection. I have done sex after six months and after two days of sex I suffer from itching and swelling on my penis. I visited a doctor but was not satisfied. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Share a picture of the affected area. If there was unprotected sex then one needs to think of sexually transmitted infection. I suggest you do the following tests-

  1. TPHA (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination).
  2. HPV DNA PCR ( human papillomavirus (HPV) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test).
  3. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) one and two IgG (immunoglobulin G).
  4. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) one and two IgM (immunoglobulin M).
  5. Chlamydia trachomatis IgG (immunoglobulin G).
  6. HIV 1 and 2 antibodies screening test.
  7. HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen).
  8. Urine complete test.

If not, it can be a simple bacterial infection and you can use an ointment T Bact for local application and Doxy (Doxycycline) 100 mg twice a day for five days. If there is itching then you need to think of a fungal infection and use ointment Candid B for local application and for itching take a tablet of Cetzin once at night. Make sure you wash your genitalia twice a day morning and night and use normal water no cold or hot water. Do not use heavy pH soap.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have no itching and no pain in my penis. I did a blood test after almost six months after unprotected sex. I have one to two red acne on my penis and it stays one day and repeated after one day again.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have checked the pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and looks like a mild infection or allergy. This is nothing major. If the infection is on and off without itching then it can be a bacterial infection. Use T-Bact (Mupirocin) ointment for better control.

Thank you.
