Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 46 years old, and I am having lower back and nipple pains. What are the causes? No medication, but I am type 2 diabetic and diet-controlled. What should I do?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Lower back pain along with nipple or breast pain that occurs in a cyclical pattern every month is most commonly related to hormonal changes, especially around the menstrual cycle or perimenopause at your age. This is often referred to as cyclical mastalgia and can be associated with fluid retention, breast tenderness, and sometimes back discomfort.
Since you are 46, these symptoms can also be influenced by perimenopausal hormonal fluctuations, which can make cycles irregular and symptoms more noticeable. The fact that it happens monthly is reassuring and suggests a hormonal pattern rather than a serious condition.
You can manage this with simple measures like wearing a well-supportive bra, reducing caffeine and excess salt, regular exercise, and using mild pain relief when needed. Since you are diabetic, maintaining good sugar control also helps reduce inflammation and discomfort.
If you notice any lump, persistent one-sided pain, nipple discharge, or a change in breast shape, then further evaluation would be needed. You can share more details about your cycle or symptoms so I can guide you further in the best possible way.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
