How to manage white patches on the face?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have these white patches that are a bit textured, and I am only 15 years old. I have been experiencing this problem for the past three months. I have tried everything, but the patches will not go away. They are slightly raised and puffed compared to the rest of my facial skin.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It appears to be Pityriasis alba. The possible causes could include nutritional deficiency, dry skin, atopy, prolonged sun exposure, chronic rubbing, or epidermal barrier dysfunction.

Recommended care:

  1. Moisturize your skin frequently.
  2. Relax and manage stress effectively.
  3. Maintain a nutritious diet.
  4. Apply Physiogel hypoallergenic cream or CeraVe cream (gentle moisturizer) twice daily for 10 days.
  5. Apply Emolene cream (propylene glycol) in the evening for two weeks.
  6. Apply Momate cream (mometasone) at night for two weeks.
  7. Consume a diet rich in antioxidants, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin A and C.
  8. Drink plenty of water.
  9. Avoid direct sunlight.
  10. Do not scratch or rub the affected areas.
  11. Reduce exposure to irritants.
  12. Use sunscreen daily at 9 AM, 12 PM, and 3 PM.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you for using iCliniq. Have a great day!
