Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have white patches on my face and would like to know what they are. There is one large patch and several tiny spots around my face, which are itchy in certain areas. Also I have been using Cortizone 10mg cream for a while.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I looked over the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). According to history, it is a condition known as Pityriasis Alba. It is a skin ailment that causes discoloration, primarily on the face but also on the trunk, neck, and arms. It is not contagious and usually goes away independently, but it may take some time. Most people with Pityriasis Alba have other allergic diseases such as dry skin, sneezing, and skin rashes. Your present medicine is the most excellent option for reducing the appearance of the patches. I want to reassure you that there is nothing to be concerned about and that the situation is not serious. It is quite frequent in young children and teens. Continue using the cream you currently use and follow up with your dermatologist in person so the medication can be tapered down.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
