Are Micafugin and Elores injection prompt treatment for severe pneumonia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father is in ICU (intubated ventilator) since one week for severe pneumonia/bronchitis with fungal and bacterial infection in the lungs and is on below mentioned medication. B -cagin (Micafugin) injection, Elores 1.5 gm injection started recently, Tigefic plus injection, and Moxidac 100 ml. Please guide whether the above medication is fine or some other treatment can be tried?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

According to your statement, your father has been suffering from pneumonia with bacterial and fungal infections. Along with hypoxia. Now your father is in the ICU with an incubated ventilator. His past history was cough with phlegm. Firstly, he was treated for jaundice, then developed pneumonia, and subsequently hypoxia.

According to the investigation reports provided (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it reveals right-sided consolidation due to pneumonia caused by either bacteria or a virus with hypokalemia (low potassium levels) but his oxygen saturation rate is 97%, which indicates no hypoxia is present at this moment.

Your father's current medications, which are being used now, such as injection B-Cagin (Micafungin) is antifungal in the therapeutic class used for severe fungal infections; Elores 1.5 gm injection, which is a combination medicine used for treating various types of bacterial infections; and Tigefic plus injection (Tigecycline) is an antibiotic medication used for skin, abdominal, and lung infections, are injections.

Moxidac is a quinolone antibiotic used for bacterial infections, and Lornit injection is a nutritional supplement used for protecting the liver from harmful chemicals or free radicals and managing liver disorders like acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, hepatic encephalopathy, etc. So I think his current medications are sufficient for covering his present conditions. Only potassium supplements or potassium-enriched foods can be added, as its level is low.

I hope this helps.
