What causes post-coital burning sensation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 21-year-old female and I have been experiencing a severe post-coital burning sensation in the vulva area extending to the lower pelvic area in the last few days. I had a similar sensation the last time I had intercourse. Are these symptoms of UTI or STDs? What should I do?

Answered by Dr. Rajesh Jain

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

The burning sensation seems to be due to some infection following friction injuries caused during Intercourse. I will need the following information to give you a better suggestion.

1) Do you have any swelling in the inguinal areas?

2) Do you have any abnormal vaginal discharge, itching, or burning?

In the meantime, I suggest the following recommendations

1) Take plenty of water daily.

2) Take Pantoprazole 40 mg tablet on an empty stomach for five days.

3) Take 15 ml of Disodium Hydrogen Citrate syrup diluted in 200 ml water three times a day.

4) Levofloxacin 250 mg twice a day for five days.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
