What could be the reason for persistent pain after five days of tooth removal?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a tooth removed five days ago. I took antibiotics before the removal but not after. I had heavy bleeding for ten hours. Since the numbing wore off I have been in pain and taking medicine every two hours to help with the pain. The blood clot is still there, with no pus, no fever, or anything. I am just in a lot of pain and unsure of what to do. Currently, I am taking Tylenol and Motrin.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I had gone through your query and understand your concern. As per your history, it looks like there is either a root stump left or most probably there is a sharp bony chip or edge that is causing pain. The second reason may be the dry socket (burning pain, whitish socket with a foul smell). In case you want a proper opinion please upload a picture. My advice is not to take too many painkillers, it may hurt your stomach. Upload a photo and I will prescribe the proper medication.

Hope my answer helps.

Kindly revert for further queries.

Thank you.
