Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Thanks for sharing that. Given your history and current symptoms, here is a breakdown of what might be happening and what to consider next. You have not had a period and are trying to conceive. You started taking Geritol today, and bleeding occurred shortly after. You are also on prenatal vitamins. You have a history of abortion, which is important to mention, but does not necessarily relate to the current bleeding unless there were complications.

Is the bleeding from Geritol? It is unlikely. Geritol is just a multivitamin with iron. It does not cause bleeding directly. Sometimes iron can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, but it would not cause vaginal bleeding. So, the timing with Geritol might just be a coincidence.

Possible causes of the bleeding include hormonal imbalance, as irregular cycles or missed periods for several months can lead to breakthrough bleeding or spotting. This could be your body trying to restart your cycle. An anovulatory cycle, meaning no ovulation, is common in women with irregular periods or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Sometimes the uterine lining sheds irregularly when it builds up over time.

Stress or weight changes can also affect ovulation and cause skipped or irregular periods, followed by unexpected bleeding. PCOS is a common cause of missed periods and infertility, and is worth investigating if you have also had acne, weight changes, or excess hair growth. Finally, this bleeding could be an early sign of your period returning after months without one.

What you should do in the short term is track the bleeding, note how heavy it is, how long it lasts, and if there is any pain or clots. Keep taking your prenatal vitamins or Geritol, as they are safe. Avoid self-medicating for period regulation unless prescribed by a doctor.

Next steps include scheduling a pelvic ultrasound and hormonal blood work, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), prolactin, estradiol, and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH). These tests can assess whether you are ovulating or have ovarian reserve issues. See an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) or reproductive specialist, especially since you are trying to conceive and have not had a period in over a month.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
