Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 23-year-old girl who recently got married. I engaged in intercourse, but he did not ejaculate inside me; he only rubbed his penis against me. I have been on birth control since that day. I began taking Famila 28 tablets the next day and continued for 16 days. My period was due at the end of last month, which has now passed, and I have not gotten my period. Instead, I have been experiencing brown discharge for about a week, which comes and goes frequently. I took a pregnancy test, and as soon as I dipped it in urine, it showed a single line. The instructions indicated to wait for three to five minutes, but it showed results within a second, indicating negative. I cannot afford to have a baby as I am currently attending university. What can I conclude from the test?
Please provide me with your opinion.
Hello,
I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.
I can understand your concern.
Do not panic. Just repeat the test again and go for an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy.
Regarding the first colored line that appears immediately, let me explain how a pregnancy test kit works. When you put one urine drop into the window of the kit, one line immediately appears. This is called the test line. Its purpose is to test the kit itself, to check whether it is working or not, understood? If one line appears, it means the kit is working. Now, if another line appears within three to five minutes, it means the pregnancy test is positive. The second line (pregnancy positive) is usually faint and of a lighter color than the test line.
I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.
Thank you.
