What can be done for fear of ectopic pregnancy despite negative test result?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
In five days, I have my period. I feel something on my left side of the abdomen. I am taking a pregnancy test at home, but it shows negative. I have a fear that I might be pregnant. And if it is true, then maybe it is an ectopic pregnancy. Because a few months back, I had surgery to remove my right fallopian tube. Please suggest to me what I should do.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern
I understand you are worried about the pregnancy and the various consequences, but please understand it is too early to say anything about the pregnancy if you are still due on the cycle. You are very correct, and there is normally a five percent chance of an ectopic pregnancy overall. But for those having a history of surgery, chances are higher.
If you are having symptoms like severe pain, vomiting, fainting, or blackout, all these with a positive pregnancy test point towards an ectopic pregnancy. However, it is very early to say anything now if you have mild symptoms only. There are ways to check if any pregnancy or not, such as the blood test, urine test, or an ultrasound. I suggest you do it if you miss your periods or have any severe symptoms as above.
I hope this helps you. Do let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
